Encore Theatre and Gallery and Birmingham Festival Theatre are proud to present a joint community theatre production of the beloved musical Little Shop of Horrors, to be performed at the historic Carver Theatre in June 2026.

Dates: April 20th and 21st

Birmingham Festival Theatre
Time: 6:00-8:00PM

Main auditions will be April 20th with callbacks on the 21st. If you are unable to make the 20th, you may be allowed to attend the 21st. Email rherbrick@gmail.com for more information.

We are committed to inclusive, imaginative casting. All roles are open to performers of any race, ethnicity, gender identity, and body type. We enthusiastically welcome drag performers and artists who bring bold, creative interpretations to their work. Casting will be based on talent, storytelling, and the ability to bring these characters to life in fresh and exciting ways.

Please plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete audition paperwork. Times for auditions will be available for sign up here.

Requirements

Please prepare a contemporary musical theater from or in the style of the show, no longer than a minute. We would like to see strong grounded choices with a clear sense of storytelling. Please bring a copy of your headshot, resume, and your book in case you’re asked to sing something else or fill the form prior to the audition.

  • Prepare 16–32 bars of a musical theatre song

  • Bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided or bring tracks along with your own speaker

About the Show

The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!

Characters

Seymour Krelborn

  • Vocal Range: A2 – G4 (Tenor/High Baritone)

  • Description: A meek, insecure floral assistant with a big heart and hidden courage. Needs strong acting and comedic timing, with the ability to grow emotionally throughout the show. Vocally requires a gentle, sincere tone with the ability to build to stronger moments.

Audrey

  • Vocal Range: G3 – D5 (Mezzo-Soprano with belt)

  • Description: A sweet, insecure woman with low self-esteem who dreams of a better life. Needs strong character work, vulnerability, and comedic instincts. Must be comfortable with a 1960s-style vocal sound and light belt.

The Plant (Audrey II)

  • Vocal Range: G2 – G4 (Baritone/Tenor, soulful/rock voice)

  • Description: A sassy, manipulative, larger-than-life plant. Voice should have strong rhythm & blues/rock qualities with charisma and power. Excellent sense of timing and musicality required.

Orin Scrivello, DDS

  • Vocal Range: G2 – G4 (Baritone)

  • Description: A sadistic, over-the-top dentist with strong comedic energy. Should be physically expressive and fearless. Vocally bold with a rock edge.

Mr. Mushnik

  • Vocal Range: G2 – F4 (Baritone)

  • Description: The shop owner. Gruff, old-school, and comedic. Often played with a touch of eccentricity or accent. Strong character actor with solid singing ability.

Crystal

  • Vocal Range: G3 – F5 (Soprano/Mezzo with strong belt)

  • Description: Street-smart, confident, and stylish. One of the three Urchins. Strong harmony skills and movement ability required.

Ronnette

  • Vocal Range: G3 – F5 (Soprano/Mezzo with strong belt)

  • Description: The bold and sassy leader of the trio. Excellent vocal control, comedic timing, and presence.

Chiffon

  • Vocal Range: G3 – F5 (Soprano/Mezzo with strong belt)

  • Description: Playful and quirky with a strong personality. Needs tight harmony work and physical expressiveness.

Ensemble (optional depending on production)

  • Vocal Range: Various

  • Description: May include additional customers, street characters, and support roles. Strong movers with good ensemble singing.
